WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:

Rome Art Residencies is very excited to have Costa Dvorezky join us for the first time! Costa will be offering a week of highly enjoyable but intensive instruction in figure painting in a supportive, creatively, energizing and immersive environment.

This course will entail a total of five studio days with a live model, six hours per day, supplemented by trips to museums, churches, and historical sites. Paints and solvents are included. Each day is spent making art, socializing with your fellow artists and enjoying the cultural treasures of Rome. On the final day, there will be a group dinner. Each day will be a full experience from morning to night!

In this workshop we will carefully explore classic method of alla prima with an emphasis on modeling and finish.

  • Will focus on an Alla-Prima painting approach which will allow students to compose a figurative painting.

  • Will be devoted to underpainting in one color, focusing on composition, tonal execution, anatomy and technique.

  • Will focus on an alla prima painting approach which will allow students to compose a figure painting.

Though alla prima (the direct manner of finishing a painting while it is wet) is often considered an impressionistic approach, it is also ideal for the careful and thorough modeling which is a hallmark of classical painting. This approach will allow students to thoroughly and efficiently complete a painting without the laborious and time consuming classic approach of glazed layers.

Methods of drawing, paint manipulation and color arrangement will be included and a thorough analysis of the anatomy will be stressed.

Majority of our focus will be placed around values in the painting. Using the set with a model, we will try to recognize and interpret the value relations along with the temperature aspect. With alla-prima approach we will try to accomplish the unfinished and loose stage of the painting in to a finished statement.

Painting begins on Monday, May 26. May 30 will be the last day for painting and a group dinner the following night. Each day will be a full experience from morning to night!

Studios are located at Palazzo Velli Expo in Trastevere, Rome.

Address: Piazza di Sant'Egidio 10, 00153 Roma

COSTA DVOREZKY

BIO:

Costa has drawn inspiration for his prolific works of art  from board travels and his abundant life experiences as  both a visitor and resident of numerous countries  around the world. Born in Russia in 1968, Costa developed his unique brand of art through his extensive schooling at the Art College and the Academy of Arts in Moscow. His passion and talent for art was recognized by Russia’s Union of Young Artists when he received the Development of The Year Award in 1997.

Through his paintings Costa goes beyond the obvious to uncover the symbolism within the human aspect of daily life. His creativity and style come alive through his works depicting dark and surreal imagery. As a viewer of Costa’s images, one is transported to a world of fictional proportions that exists in the recesses of the artist’s mind.
Metamorphosed human and animal figures shrouded in darkness, suggest the existence of a distorted world-order. These images evoke one to closely examine and question the reality of what one sees. Through his artwork, Costa challenges the observer to not only understand the scope of the actual image, but to also comprehend the feelings that the image provokes. His paintings are as bold as the statements that they make, and it is up to each individual to decipher what the meaning behind the image really is.

Costa’s art has achieved international recognition. It has been featured in many private and public exhibits on European and North American stage, and has been sold to many private collection in Europe, the United States and Canada.
