WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
Don’t miss this unique opportunity to sculpt, see art and socialize in a small group with Brian Booth Craig!
This intensive workshop will focus on creating the female figure in a dynamic pose. Students will work directly from a live model six hours per day for ten days to create a 1/3 scale figure in plastiline over an aluminum wire armature. Emphasis will be placed upon observational modeling and the systematic study of proportions, basic anatomy, composition, and gesture. This course is also designed to give students a greater understanding and appreciation for the variety of sculptural practices that employ the human form through the study of masterworks in Rome. In addition to sculpting from life, this course will include trips to museums, churches, and historical sites, lectures, discussions, and demonstrations. On Sunday May 18, at 1 PM there will be a brief orientation and group meeting to get acquainted. Sculpting begins on Monday, May 19. On the final day, there will be a final critique, packing sculptures, and a group dinner at night. Each day will be a full experience from morning to night!
This course will have a maximum of 15 students. Please note that if the course is canceled due to COVID-19, all course fees will be refunded, minus credit card or PayPal transaction fees.
Plastiline, armature wire, and a wooden crate for transporting the completed sculpture (a $250 value) are included. Students are encouraged to bring their own tools, but some basic tools will be available for use by the students. Participants will have the opportunity to purchase sculpture tools from a Miroballi representative in Rome. The course does not involve mold-making and casting.
Accommodations: Housing is not included in the workshop fees.
